Girl's Basketball game: Hominy Valley (us) Vs Waynesville

We played an overly aggressive team this morning. These girls we pushing our girls down with both hands! They were really rough and honestly pretty mean. It was bad. Fortunately we beat them 22 - 6. At the end, one of our girls accidentally ran into the meanest girls on that team and knocked her to the floor. They pulled that girl out, so that was good for us.

Christmas.....

Christmas has finally come and gone......We had a good one :)
Christmas eve we spent at Mamaw's house and had lots of good food. Candace brought Sammy and he opened his gifts and really enjoyed them (they all made lots of noise!)

At our house we opened pajamas and then went to bed. We had an eventful and busy day.

On Christmas day we had a nice breakfast of bacon, eggs, hashbrowns and sausage balls. P3 came over, as he does every year :) Everyone opened their stockings and then we opened presents. The kids got lots of stuff, both clothing and toys.
We went to Mamaw's house for lunch. Joel and Candace brought Sammy over and we had a nice time visiting. Sammy had a good time dancing to music and drinking chocolate milk...lol...

We left there around 2:30 because Phillip needed to pack and leave for Camp Butner to hunt. He left around 4:45.
So, the kids have spent their afternoon playing board games, Wii games, PSP games and DS games. Tonight we will watch one of their new movies and have popcorn. Tomorrow we have to get back on schedule, as I have PT in the morning and Kyle has school work he needs to work on (won't he love to find that out!)
But, I only have to work 2 half days next week, then I am headed to Camp Butner to hunt with Phillip. I am hoping to meet up with a friend of mine I haven't seen in 9 years first, then head to camp. I am a little nervous, as I have never been camping and I am not a rough it kind of girl.

Hollywild

We went to Hollywild on Tuesday(December 23). We've been a few times and have always enjoyed it. This year we took Candace and Sammy.

It was an interesting trip and a long one. Hollywild is about an hour from Asheville, so we were planning to be there by 8pm. Well, we got there at 8:04pm.. not bad right? We didn't get to Hollywild at 8:04pm, we got 4/10th of a mile from Hollywild. There was a line to get in, BOTH WAYS! Incredible. So we sat in line for an hour, I kid you not. We finally got in to sit in another line to pay. So, about 9:10pm we were on our way to look at lights.

If you have never been to Hollywild, it is a zoo that houses Hoolywood animals that no longer work. The Carolina panther for the football team also lives there. It is a really cool place to go. They have a safari area where there are zebras, llamas, and thousands of deer (Phillip's dream, but without his bow,,,lol)....There are these HUGE cows, bulls and yaks that just wander around. So, you get to drive through this, park and feed these anmals from your car. There was a zebra standing in front of one car, refusing to move ( I think he was holding out for more food). We had one zebra that almost hit the van, walking right up on us!

They also have Santa's land where they have a petting zoo full of baby animals, goats, llamas, etc. They also have a place where all of santas reindeer are. Very cool.

We saw the Von Dohlen's (the girls' kindergarten teacher, Kyle's basketball coach and a good friend of mine) as well. That was great. We love them :) We headed out as it was 10:30pm at this point. The trip wasn't near as long, so that was good.

We had alot of fun and I think Sammy enjoyed it. There was alot to look at.

Today Candace and I are going to take Sammy to the Biltmore Square Mall to see Santa. THAT should be interesting. He is all about some stranger danger...lol..I think he will probably not appreciate us doing this, but it is more a photo op for me and Candace than anything...lol... i will post more pictures later !

Setting Up the Christmas Tree

Busy Holiday Weekend

This weekend has been full of baking and celebrations. Yesterday Kyle had his second Basket ball game. He did great, although his team did lose. They played against a really good team and unfortunately they were down to 6 players. After the second quarter one of their better players got fouled out :( But we were glad that Kyle really stepped up and did a great job. He played the entire game which was new for him because they usually cycle kids out every three minutes.

I did a ton of baking, which I really enjoy. I made toffee bars, snickerdoodles, buttery almond cookies, apple-carmel pie, baked macaroni and cheese, sweet potato casserole, fudge, reindeer cookies and raisin bran muffins. Everything has come out great. We had a Christmas party tonight and tomorrow I am taking some snacks to Phillip's office. He's off for the next 2 weeks, but I usually send something in to the office every year, and I am a little behind this year. I am just doing a mixed platter of toffe bars, buttery almond cookies and some bars I am going to make tonight.
We went and visited Joel and Candace and Sammy this afternoon. Sammy turned 1 today! We brought him a bug trike and he was so cute with it! He had more fun with the wrapping paper than anything! He is getting so big. The kids really enjoy playing with him and he seems to like them as well.

Knee set back

Well, I haven't been having too many problems with my knee until about a week ago. I have been doing alot of pool therapy which has been nice. However, I started having tremendous pain about a week ago. On Monday when I had therapy I was hurting but was able to get through therapy. On Wednesday I had pool therapy but could not get past my 5 laps. The therapist put me in the deep end with weights on my ankles to "pull" my leg and straighten my knee. It helped a little, but after doing some stretches I was still hurting. She put me in the hot tub for 20 minutes, but I was having shooting pains. She put a Renalto patch on me to wear home. This fun little number shocks medication into my muscle and helps with inflamation and pain. So, the out come is good, since I usually have no pain for about a day, but having my knee shocked for three hours is no fun. I usually have it done "in Clinic" which is done after I am numb with an ice wrap and is a much higher voltage and it takes 20 minutes. (See the picture of my lovely knee patch above with the electrode.. how cool is that ?) I have more pool therapy on Monday, so we will see how that goes. I haven't heard too bad today, but give it some time....lol

Party: SUCCESSFUL

I cannot even tell you how relieved I am to have this project completed! Everything went as planned and went well. He was surprised and even happy with the outcome, especially getting to see his son Jason and his friend Jimmy. Thank you to all those who were so willing to help ad take time to be there and for having such wonderful things to say. I appreciate you all!

The slide show was great and all credit goes to my brother Joel who did a fantastic job putting it together and running it! While Phillip was just a little embarassed at having to relive his life (and his love of cut of jean shorts!) I know he will enjoy having it to watch and remember all the things he's had and done in his life.

Phillip will get to spend the day with Jason on Tuesday and I know he is really looking forward to that. He hasn't seen Jason in 4 years since he lives in Alaska. Next year he will be moving to Germany (to one of the bases we were at when I lived there... how cool is that...I'm so visiting him!) He should be there for 3 years, so Phillip is enjoying every minute he gets with him.

And, for you that don't know, Kyle, Jonelle and Aly knew about the party for the last 2 months. They never said a word. THey even knew Jason was coming. They did a great job keep secrets!

Well, this week is the last week at work until the Dec 29th, so I am going to enjoy 10 days off. We close the daycare every year for a week at Christmas to give the employees some time with their families. It is definately a nice break away. This week however is really busy. We take the preschool kids to the nursing home up the street to hand out Christmas cards and sing carols. My Transition to Kindergarten class is visiting their Kindergarten Pen Pal class to decorate gingerbread houses. Friday is Polar Express Day and our Christmas party. Of course during all this I have physical therapy as well. So busy, busy.

Ready to go

Well, the decorations are up, the cake is waiting and i am so relieved. Well, I will be when it's over. Phillip is still planning to go hunting but has promised to be home around 12 or 1pm. So, I will still be stressing out some what that he will be home on time, but he will cause he knows I will be upset if he isn't. I told him we needed to go shopping for P3's Christmas present.
I made him a 60 page scrapbook through Sams.com. It was supposed to be ready on Thursday at 1130 am. It had not arrived today so they gave me a certificate to get the scrapbook for free. That's nice, but I really wanted to have it for the party. Oh well, I can't stress over it. I am really looking forward to seeing his reaction, especially to seeing Jason. I know he will be excited about that.
Well, I hope to have pictures to post and really good stories to share :)

MRI Review/Other News

Today I have my MRI review. Everything looks good and should be 100% in a month. He said he doesn't see the need for surgery at this time, so that is good. I am now doing 2 days a week of therapy in the pool in addition to one day on land every other week for the next month. So, Jan 21st is my next doctor's appointment and we will decide what to do with my knee cap. He thinks it could get better with the PT, so we will see.

That wonderful husband of mine has driven me crazy this week. How was I susposed to know that this was the last week of hunting in WNC? So, I had to whine and cry to get him to stay home with me Saturday. Hopefully everything will go as planned. As we all know Saturday is the big party (don't worry he doesn't have the link to this blog yet....just because of this ...lol) I think he will be pleasantly surprised. All I have left to do is pick up the cake, scrapbook and blown up pictures to display. I will be decorating Friday night and everything will be ready to go for Saturday. Tomorrow afternoon I am meeting with my brother to go over the slide show and see how it looks. I will be so relieved after this is all done :)

I hope every one is getting their Christmas shopping done.....Christmas is only 15 days away. Phillip went shopping today and he got me a Build A Bear Moose dressed as Santa for decoration (isn't he sweet?). I have found that if I want to get exactly what I want for Christmas I have to give him an extremely detailed list. I put pictures of the items, with sizes, prices and stores available at. This has served me well :)

I'm ready for Christmas.

Knee update

Yesterday was my big doctor's appointment. I was really expecting to hear that I could be off crutches and all was good. The xrays do not show additional breaks, so that is good. I am scheduled to have an MRI on Saturday and then Wednesday (10th) review it with the doctor to make sure it is healing correctly. If it is, I should be off crutches completely in 2 weeks. If not, 6 weeks more of crutches. Thats not the fun part. My patella (knee cap) is not on straight. Because of that, the cushioning between the bones is wearing thin. I have Digenerative Joint Disease. So, after the fracture is healed he is going to do a scope surgery to clean out the debris in my knee as well as explore the other issues going on in there. He thinks at some point I will need a full knee replacement. Luckily he is going find every alternative to that. SO, at this point we won't know much until Wednesday. Blah.
